Pretty Little Fingers: neon color block nails

Hey everyone! I am so excited to be over here at one of my favorite blogs, showing you a crazy easy way to do simple, shabby flowers on your nails. Heather is amazing - I got to meet her and hang out a bit last May at the Queen Bee Market, and I'm stoked to see her again at the Snap Conference!

About me......my name is Heather too. I'm a wife, mama, jewelry designer and lover of all that glitters. I have two little girls named Leila and Gianna (although we call Gianna "Coco") I blog over at Glitter and Gloss (formerly known as Angel Face Designs.) I am obsessed with all things beauty - hair, makeup, nails, fashion....I love it all! Prior to having my girls I worked full time forLaura Mercier, and prior to that worked for Stila. I've also freelanced for Bobbi Brown and Nars. Anyways, onto the tutorial....

Here is a SUPER simple way to add a little bit of Spring to your basic manicure.

You will need:

First thing's first: paint your nails the main color. I used "For Audrey" by China Glaze.
It's the perfect springtime turquoise.

Cut a small corner of painter's tape with your craft scissors.
Any type of craft scissors, or even pinking shears will do.

Once you've cut it, it should look like this:

Place your cut tape about halfway down your nail like this:

Paint the lighter of your two contrast colors (in this case yellow) over the exposed part of your nail.

Wait about ten minutes to {gently!} pull the tape off - I learned the hard wait to give it a bit of time to dry before you pull it off. Trust me on this one. It will look like this.

--Don't worry if you get a bit of polish on your skin -
you can go back with a q-tip and some nail polish remover and clean them right up!--

After waiting *at least* an hour cut another piece of the tape
with your craft scissors and put it over your light color.

Next you just paint your other contrast color over.

Again, give it at least ten minutes of drying time before peeling the tape off.
I didn't and it didn't turn out as crisp as it would have otherwise.

The finished product:

  8. pretty! Do you find that blue painters tape works better than scotch tape? I feel like I always have a really hard time finding funky scissors that actually cut through the scotch tape. Awesome!

    1. Hey Sara- blue painter's tape works MUCH better! I've had problems with scotch tape pulling my (dry) nail polish off, but never had a problem with painter's tape!
