14 days of love: fabric cans

Thanks for joining me for another project in our 14 Days of Love series that I'm participating in with Dana from Wonder Forest.  We decided to take the weekend off, so today I'm back with another simple DIY.  If you are new here or just want to catch up on our previous projects check them out herehere .

Today is day six of our series and I don't know if you have noticed my obsession for Mod Podge, but as I was preparing this post I wondered to myself if I have a problem?  I love that stuff! I made these almost 2 years ago, but with paper for a bridal shower I helped decorate and I still have some of them, they last and they stay cute!  So I know the fabric will hold up even better.

Gather your supplies, take one of your fabrics and lay flat with the right side down.
Lay your can on top of the fabric with the end of your can meeting the end of your fabric.
Roll your can with the fabric to mark where you will need to cut,
to be safe you can add a little extra to that measurement. Then cut.

Do this for as many tin cans as you are decorating, then set the fabric aside.
Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to your can.

Do each can one at a time so the Mod Podge doesn't dry to quickly.
Wrap your cut piece of fabric around the can and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.
Apply another thin layer of Mod Podge over the fabric.
Set aside and do the same to the other can(s) if you are doing more then one.
Allow them to dry.

When done you can decorate more with ribbon or twine...
I used a skinny braided rope to tie around them then filled em up
with some pretty dried flowers and a candle <-- don't worry no fires here!
I think Dana's fabric flower bouquet from day one would be perfect in these.

This project is easy to do (takes about 10 minutes, without dry time).
Start saving those cans and have fun creating ♥

  5. Mod Podge has got to be one of the most addictivge substances in the world :P I use it for everything, even as a finish on my clay jewellery! It's amazing how strong it can make paper too! I've got book page flower rings in my etsy shop, and I put a few coats of Podge on them and they are virtually indestructable!

These vases are so cute! I must make some!

  6. I've never thought of reusing cans in this way, but it's a cheap way of having a display that matches your room. Love it! :)

  9. You know, I've done this before when making a topiary. I stuck the can to the top of a lamp base and filled it with flowers. I loved it. I thought it was awesome. Then I just saw it shared on Pinterest and the person left an obnoxious comment, "A soup can? Campbell's anyone?" Thanks for not letting me feel alone in my craftiness. Seeing your cans reminds me that mine are awesome!

  10. I hate to ask this, but what exactly is mod podge? ^^

I've seen it in so many DIY now....I'm trying to look for something similar here in Germany...is it just a simple, all-rounder glue??

    1. its an adhesive and hardner (i guess that's how i would describe it) there are ways to make it yourself if you can't find it where you live, just google 'homemade mod podge' =)

Just stumbled on your blog from craft gawker. I did this for a party.. our budget was $30 for decorations for 11 tables plus the buffet table. We made the fabric covered cans then filled them with coffee filter flowers. It came in under budget and turned out beautiful but I forgot to take photos. People were fighting over taking home the centerpieces. I highly recommend this project. Kids love it too!
