road trip: house hunting mission

We took a few days off and headed north to visit Portland and hopefully get a better idea of what area we want to live in and find some prospective homes.  I won't lie, when I got back home tonight I was a little bummed.  Sure, I had a great weekend with the husband- I even lost my IKEA virginity- but we didn't find anything remotely close to some of our desired neighborhoods we want (with the amenities we need and within our budget).  Coming back to Grants Pass, where every day I don't want to be here, made it that much harder.

Yes, I'm sharing a photo of IKEA- I was excited.  I have a long list of things I haven't done, that most bloggers do (like ikea shopping and macaroon eating) and I just crossed this bad boy off!

Between driving from neighborhood to neighborhood, we consumed enough caffeine to open our own coffee stand and found some new shops we can't wait to visit again. Brandon wasn't as familiar with Portland as I am so it was fun to show him the city the way I see & love it and I think he has a better understanding for why I want to be there so badly.

Don't get me wrong, I've very thankful for all the things we have been able to accomplish on this little adventure of ours since moving out of our house in October.  I just hate the {in-between} phase and can't wait to get settled somewhere new!

  1. You will find a house!! :) We had almost given up looking when we found the one we bought and buying it was even an almost 6-month ordeal. Have patience and faith and you'll get there :)

    1. Aw thanks! We wanted to buy, but just this whole process of moving to another city is enough stress. So we decided we will rent and then after being there a bit look at houses to buy!

  2. How hunting can be an ORDEAL. If you watch HGTV at all it is not at all as easy as they make it look. Just don't give up! It's kind of like finding the guy you're meant to be with. Sometimes you have to kiss some frogs first ;-)

    1. I can't believe you moved across the country and made it seem so easy! My husband was a little stressed with the fact that you can go in and the only way out is to walk through the entire store (I think its smart marketing!), but other then that I can see myself having an entire house of IKEA and thrift store finds all mashed together!

  5. Ohhh IKEA, love that place. Too bad the nearest one to me is three hours away...or maybe not too bad. I would be broke otherwise:)

    1. We really liked sellwood (a lot!), but had no luck finding something that was within walking distance to that neighborhood that didn't cost a fortune. I'm hopeful though!

  16. The in-between is horrible (and I feel like I'm stuck here!). I've never been to Portland (minus Portlandia...does that oucnt?!), but the pics looked intriguing. Good luck finding a place...you are NOT ALONE! So, if you find 2 places...maybe let us all know about the second! Haha. :)

  17. I love Portland! I miss living there! I lived in Northeast Portland (Hollywood) which is pretty awesome and had some great restaurants. One day I'll make it back that way. I love how it's a Major city, but small and everyone knows everyone like a small town.

Best of luck with your search!

    1. Thats one of my favorite things too- it seems big (which it is), but not so big that you can't feel comfortable or know your way around areas!
