I've never been much of a collector (hoarder maybe), the last time I collected something was water globes & in a fit of teenage angst I threw them against my walls to get back at my mom for not letting me go to a party. Sidenote: if I ever have kids I hope they aren't like how I was as a teen, sorry mom! However, everytime I go thrifting, antiquing or yard sale hunting I''m always on the look out for cameras. Over time I've built up a little collection and this is just a portion of it. I dream of having them all displayed on shelves someday, until then they are in boxes, but at least I have them!
I've been trying to take more photos with these cameras. Sure I take pictures everyday with my phone, but ever since I closed my photography business last year I've noticed how much I don't use them. I use my canon's for blog & shop stuff, but these ones need more love. Since film is a hobby and what I learned on when first shooting manual over 15yrs ago, I feel like using them will be doing something for myself.
I first learned on film in a high school photography class and it will always have my heart. I can tell you what each of these cameras can do, a little history on them and that all except two in this collection work and have film in them. I would have to say that I love my Holga cameras and the 120mm film they use- even if it is expensive to get processed. Next up I'd say Polaroids are it- instant exposures are always good. However, I'm proud of the Hit camera I received from a client a few years ago. Its the cutest thing and totally works!
My little collecting hobby doesn't just include cameras. I love anything photo/video related including old advertisements, photo reels, books.. you name it.
Do you have a hobby collection?
Photos! I agree. I'm terrified of my camera and I know if I got out there and used it, played with it...I'd get better.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing more pretty pics from you!

Thats whats great about digital, we can make a bajillion mistakes and use the ones we love! I think some photographers think it takes away from the art of capturing images, but I think it's great practice!
DeleteWow, what a neat collection! I kinda stick with my phone because I'm not a great with my little point & shoot - as long as I'm capturing every day moments, I'm happy! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing. i wish I knew more about camera's. :/ I need to do more makeup. :) i love it, I'd love to get paid for it now that I'm all graduated.
ReplyDeleteGentri when I first graduated beauty school and when I first really took photography seriously its all I did. Its like I would eat, breathe and sleep those things.. Magazines, Youtube, anything I could get my hands on! You are very talented at what you do and will be so successful, I can't wait to see where it takes you!
DeleteI love all your cameras! Cannot wait to see some of the pics you take.
ReplyDeleteI need to remember to bring a camera around to document my life more, as well!

its hard, especially if you think about how much you use your phone now trade that out for a big old camera- i can already imagine more people staring then they do now!
DeleteI love your collection. I have one of the cameras in the first picture. It belonged to my grandmother.
ReplyDeleteTaking more photos was my goal too this year. I can get very shy around people and it is a very big deal to take my camera out at times. But I can say I am better at this and with the approaching project life plans I am glad I set this goal. Good luck <3

I HEART your collection of cameras!! I have recently made a goal to make more of an effort to take pictures as well. Which is kinda sad on my part, since I do photography part time... I would say in the past month that I have been sticking to it. I learned on film as well, ages ago. I still have that camera if I remember correctly... I have dreams of own tons of cute little vintage cameras that will adorn my office space one day.......
ReplyDeleteWhen I was doing photography full time I would try to make time in my schedule for 'my photos'. I would walk around my neighborhood, hit up thrift stores or go on drives.. anything to take pictures just for me, not because I was getting paid. To this day, those are still my favorite photos!
DeleteOh my goodness! SWOON! I'm so in love with vintage cameras! you have a great collection. Thanks for linking up with The GFC Collective! I love your blog, hope to see you again next week!

Your cameras and equipment is so cool! I have recently gotten into photography, I'm attending my first Nikon seminar in NYC in a couple of weeks and I'm so excited. I have never been so passionate about anything before! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThats awesome, have fun!!! Photography is seriously an amazing passion to have, so dont lose it!
DeleteWow that's a lot of cameras! This is an excellent idea. I am such a procrastinator, I made resolutions for myself, and have not done so well with them. I may have to try this out for myself. I tell myself every day I'm going to write down my goals the next morning, and I always end up forgetting to do it. It would help if I had the notepad handy of course. So, yeah I think I need to do this!
